Matt – Work Experience at Mareeba Base
Matt had a weeks worth of work at the Mareeba Hangar last week. All year 10s spend a week out on work experience during term four rather than at school.

His first day was a bit of a shock to the system – up at 545am ready to be picked up by Bert and Nevin in time for prayers at the hangar at 730am. Monday was a day of stripping paint, stripping paint and stripping paint. Then back in the van dropped of at home around 615pm. Shower, couch time and bed all happened a lot quicker than normal.
Tuesday 545am start, worked with Bert most of the day doing a handful of interesting tasks including some fibre-glassing. Made a window and went for a flight in the new turbo GA8 destined for Papua New Guinea with Stephen Charlesworth and Andrew Jenkins. A real highlight, he could hardly keep the smile off his face when telling us that evening.
He had a great week, got a glimpse of life as a MAF Engineer, got to know a few aircraft types and saw some tools to put on the birthday and Christmas pressie list.
Matt cleverly finished the week doing what would ensure he would always be welcomed back by the guys at Mareeba – took up some of Janine’s world famous broken biscuit cake….
